Who am I?

Hi! My name is Nikki Wouters, I am a 22 year old student from the Netherlands. I have always lived around Breda and Tilburg, but I am now studying User Experience Design at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
Before starting this bachelor, I completed high school at a gymnasium level and finished one year of art school. I studied illustrated and animated storytelling at St. Joost School of Art & Design, and although those are still my strong suits, I quickly realised that I want to apply them in a more commercial field.
This is why I switched to ux design, and after a gap year of working at the Efteling in 2022-2023 and now finally having been able to start my journey as a designer last school year (2023-2024), I can confidently say that this was the best choice for me.
User Experience Design at THUAS is a fast paced, three year bachelor's course. In my first year I have gained tons of new skills, including but not limited to user research, interaction design, prototyping with tools like Figma, user testing and human psychology that is applicable in our field. It has been intense, but a lot of fun so far.
Having a background in illustrated and animated storytelling, I have taken this and applied it to my work in ux design. I want my designs to tell a story without having to read the text. You will see this shining through in my projects like the Dutch Pantry, a webshop for Dutch people in the USA that miss their foods from home, for which my goal was to give you the feeling of sitting at your grandmother's breakfast table.
I still have a long way to go, and I am excited to learn more over my next few years at university and at possible future internships. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you are interested in working together on a project!
